Olivia Jones

The work of Olivia Jones considers how we perceive and comprehend structures within our environment.

Working through sculpture and drawing she focuses on articulating a connection between real and imagined landscapes by altering structural realities, and conjuring up idiosyncratic spaces. She is driven by a desire to understand how the natural and urban components of our surroundings behave and interact with one another.

This relationship is reflected in the choice of materials and processes Olivia uses in her work. Her sculptures combine industrial and natural materials to create forms that mimic structural tensions found within different environments. Within her drawings she fuses together digital and hand drawn processes – creating images that have an interactive quality and develop responsively. Perception and discovery are key to her practice; creating a piece of work is an investigation into the physical and functional aspects of form. Through systematically unraveling, assessing and piecing together the elements of our surroundings, the artist aims to develop works of art that engage actively with their environment and ultimately create new perspectives.
