London Art Fair: Art Projects 2014
Antlers were selected to curate a project space at London Art Fair 2014.
Antlers stand for Art Projects 2014 presented two emerging contemporary artists: Anouk Mercier and Jonny Byles. The presentation explored the dialogues that were created between their two practices, more specifically their approach to place, space and time. With practices firmly grounded in drawing, both artists use the medium to depict uncanny, imaginary worlds tainted with nostalgia. Anouk Mercier combines fragments of a Romantic past with her own drawing to present a beautiful ideal, undefined by time yet offering futuristic propositions. In contrast, Jonny Byles’ work takes a historic view of the future, an aesthetic he describes as ‘the future ten years ago’ akin to Retro-Futurism.
The two artists worked closely but separately in the build up to the fair – producing new work and allowing their practices to both inform and complement.
Art Projects is a curated showcase of the freshest contemporary art from across the globe, Art Projects features large-scale installations, solo shows and group displays, alongside an extensive Film Programme which presented a selection of experimental film and video work.
